About Us

Upping the Game.

Pass tha Ball is united by the positive impact and role of sports, specifically basketball, had on the lives of our founders. This powerhouse trio of strong minority women are staunch advocates for the less fortunate with a deep passion to see women receive the spotlight they deserve. Through their own personal experiences, they saw tremendous need. Many minority families simply do not have the knowledge to properly navigate the space from high school to college. Therefore, they are missing out on critical scholarship opportunities as a result. In addition, many cannot access skills development to edge their game to the next level due to lack of funds, transportation barriers and more. Pass tha Ball seeks to close this gap and be the guide for the next generation of female ballers to aspire in both their athleticism and academics.

Velencia JaY
Treasurer
Velencia manages online and marketing efforts for Pass tha Ball. She is a youth sports advocate with broad experience in digital media, marketing and brand development. Her talent has played a key role in building brands like Nike, Adidas, and most frequently, Facebook. Velencia holds her BA in Public Relations and Image Management from the University of North Texas. 
marissa holbert
Board Chair & Executive Director
Marissa manages the day to day operations for Pass tha Ball. After sharpening her skills working with the Kansas City Chiefs and Fox 26 Houston, Texas, Marissa dedicated herself to the work serving as the boots on the ground, getting the work done with the PTB team and local partners. Marissa holds her BA in Mass Communication from Sam Houston State University.

Jennifer polk
Secretary
Jennifer manages the business affairs for Pass tha Ball. She is responsible for developing the academic enrichment segments of PTB's programs. She is a Texas licensed educator with over 14 years of classroom experience. She holds her BA in Kinesiology and MA in Education Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University.
